Steelcon Extends SIN Beam Reach
with Acquisition of Georgia-based Hammett Steel

Toronto, Ontario (February 2, 2023) - Steelcon Group of Companies is pleased to announce the acquisition of Hammett Steel, a structural and miscellaneous steel fabricator based in Columbus, Georgia.

“While Hammett Steel is the newest member of the Steelcon Group of Companies, they bring deep roots and breadth of experience in the U.S. market, having served the Southeast U.S. and beyond for almost 60 years,” said Steelcon’s Danny Bianco. “This acquisition will allow us to expand Hammett’s capabilities and extend SIN beam reach into the U.S.”

Steelcon has a well-established record of success with SIN beam projects in Canada, with a portfolio of more than 15 million square feet of SIN beam projects from coast to coast. Exclusive to Steelcon in North America, SIN beam is similar in concept to a steel plate girder in that it is made up of flat plate flanges and a web. The only difference is that rather than a flat plate web, SIN beam uses a corrugated web, resulting in a light and efficiently manufactured steel beam with higher load capacity to weight ratio due to the sinusoidal shape.

“This is a great growth opportunity for the Hammett Steel team within an innovative and sophisticated group that shares our values,” said Hammett Steel’s Scott Boutwell. “We are thrilled to join the Steelcon team and excited about the ability to deliver new and extraordinary levels of value for our customers.”

Hammett’s 200,000 sq ft production facility will serve as headquarters for Steelcon’s U.S. operations and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including Steelcon's SIN beam line, a fully automatic production line for fabricating corrugated web beams. As production increases, Steelcon estimates the creation of up to 200 high-skilled manufacturing jobs at the Columbus facility.
