ICC-ES Confirms SIN Beam is International Building Code Compliant

Toronto, Ontario (April 13, 2023) – Steelcon Group of Companies is pleased to announce that we have received an ICC-ES evaluation report confirming that SIN Beams comply with the provisions of the 2021 and 2018 International Building Code, and the 2021 and 2018 International Residential Code.

Exclusive to Steelcon in North America, SIN Beam is similar in concept to a steel plate girder in that it is made up of flat plate flanges and a web. The only difference is that rather than a flat plate web, SIN Beam uses a corrugated web, resulting in a light and efficiently manufactured steel beam with higher load capacity to weight ratio due to the sinusoidal shape.

“The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-4651 provides guidance to the code officials approving the use of SIN Beam under the International Building Code,” said Steelcon Vice President of Engineering Derek Van Ee. The evaluation report is available online at www.icc-es.org.

With a well-established record of success of SIN Beam projects in Canada and a portfolio of more than 15 million square feet of SIN Beam projects from coast to coast, confirmation of compliance with the International Building Code represents a significant milestone in extending SIN Beam reach into the U.S.

In early 2023, Steelcon acquired a Georgia-based fabricator and that 200,000 sq ft production facility is serving as headquarters for Steelcon’s U.S. Operations. Since then, Steelcon has been equipping the facility with state-of-the-art technology, including Steelcon's SIN Beam line, a fully automatic production line for fabricating corrugated web beams.
