Stratford Festival Tom Patterson Theatre

Designed by world renowned architect Siamak Hariri of Hariri Pontarini, the new Tom Patterson Theatre is a 78,000-square-foot performance centre featuring a 600-seat auditorium with a unique, elongated thrust stage, as well as production facilities, dressing rooms, and a rehearsal hall.

Contractor: EllisDon

Architect: Hariri Pontarini

Engineer: Thornton Tomasetti

Project Value: $4 M

Steel Weight: 806 Imperial Tons

APPROACH:

Steelcon was awarded this project 2018 and is one of Steelcon’s most challenging projects for the utilization of the SIN Beam as the structure had various architectural features, strict visual requirements, and was not conventionally shaped.

Our team worked diligently to ensure all requirements were met for the highly customized and complicated features, including the complicated exterior curvature, exposed curtain wall system, highly customized decorative plate and cruficix AESS columns, complex catwalk framing, bleacher steel and long-span theatre trusses.

RESULTS:

Given the complexity of the structure and the strict requirements, the architect was very pleased, and the project has been receiving international acclaim, even before the building opens for the 2022 season. The use of SIN beam resulted in considerable savings for this highly customized and complex project, which assisted in ensuring the overall project was completed within budget.
